FEATURE CONCEPT:
NETFLIX SMART WATCHLIST TOGGLE
NETFLIX SMART WATCHLIST TOGGLE
This prototype addresses a common friction point in streaming UX: the need to navigate away from the home feed just to manage a watchlist. By implementing a Press-and-Hold gesture, we introduce a fast, playful, and highly efficient way to curate content without ever leaving the discovery grid.
Speed (Zero-Click UX): Users no longer need to open the "More Info" page and navigate back. Management happens instantly within the browsing flow.
The "Light Saber" Effect: Instead of a standard loading spinner, we utilized a dynamic red beam that scans the thumbnail from top to bottom. This effect mirrors Netflix’s brand identity—cinematic, tech-forward, and bold.
Tactile Feedback: The interaction is finalized with a clean notification toast and a persistent UI badge, ensuring the user is never left guessing if the action was successful.
Interaction: The user initiates a long press on any movie poster.
The Scan: A red laser beam activates, serving as a visual countdown. If the user releases early, the animation resets, preventing accidental additions.
Confirmation: Once the beam reaches the bottom, the item is toggled in the watchlist, triggered by a smooth notification slide-in at the bottom of the screen.
This approach reduces cognitive load and transforms library organization into an engaging, gamified part of the browsing experience.
In modern application design, gestural UI is the key to maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. By offloading secondary actions to long-press gestures, we keep the Netflix interface clean and focused on what matters most: the content.
